Competition at NFA

21 December 2013. The Waterford High School Fencing Team competed in the 2nd Eastern Connecticut Conference (ECC) fencing competition of the season. Waterford faced off against Norwich Free Academy and Griswold High Schools at the NFA gym in both foil and epee.

Girls epee defeated both NFA 7-2 and Griswold 5-4, and is undefeated for the season, closely followed by the girls foil team who defeated Griswold 9-0 but fell to NFA 3-6 and is 3-1 for the season. Both Nicolette Fardon (foil) and Kirsten Staller (epee) went 5-1 for the day.

"I am excited about how the girls foil and epee teams are coming together as teams that are focused and driven to compete" says Coach Mason. "Both teams have a good start to the season and I look to see them only improve as the season progresses".

The boys epee team defeated Griswold 6-3 but fell to NFA 2-7, while the boys foil team had two close losses to NFA and Griswold going 4-5 against both. Micah Greenleaf (epee) went 4-2 for the day.

The boys have great potential and I expect as the season progresses they will realize their skills", says Coach Mason.

The Waterford Fencing team competes each Saturday throughout the winter season against the fencing teams of the ECC. The team next competes at home after the holiday break on January 4th against East Lyme and St. Bernard.
